Explorer Scouts
Explorer Scouts are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the fourth Section of the Scouting family. There are many types of Explorer Scout Units, some may be linked to your local Scout Group, others may be based around different activities.
Not all Units meet each week, because you will often be out and about at weekends or in the holidays doing activities. There will be times when you will be busy doing other things such as exams, and being an Explorer Scout will have to fit around these.
As an Explorer Scout, you will get the chance to work with other Explorer Scouts in your District, not just your Unit. By doing this, you will get the chance to do many more activities, not just the ones your Unit organises.
The 4th Worcester Park Group hosts one of the Sutton District Explorer Units.

The Worcester Park Explorer Unit, attached to our group have just won Operation Red Flare!!
Operation Red Flare is a night incident hiking competition for teams of 4–7 Explorer Scouts, Scout Network members, Ranger Guides or any combination of these, organised by Croydon Scout District but open to teams from GLSW and beyond.
A maximum of 35 teams can take part, and entries are accepted on a first come, first served basis. The route is mainly on footpaths and bridleways over a distance of 12–15 miles at night, and requires competent map reading.
Points are awarded for navigation, speed, and activities at some of the checkpoints. There are separate classes for 14–18’s and 14–25’s, and the outright winner can come from either class. Trophies are awarded to the winners and runners-up in each class, the fastest all-female team, and fastest visitors’ (non-GLSW) team. All participating teams receive a special certificate.
