A local Scout Group held a weekend camp for over 100 young people recently to celebrate their 75 years of scouting in Worcester Park.
lead a team of leaders, parents and others, who transformed their headquarters in Braemar Road Worcester Park into a campsite for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers for the celebration.
The young people enjoyed a host of modern and traditional activities on and off site during the camp including Kayaking, Pulling and Power Boating on the Thames, hosted by the Ajax and Warspite Sea Scouts at their Thames Ditton Base’s, while on site craft skills, camp fire cooking, pioneering and other activities were organised to keep everyone happy.
Parents, friends and other District and County Scout Leaders joined the campers on Saturday evening, and over 200 enjoyed a Camp Fire, Bar-b-Que and firework display, which brought all the different age groups together, one young Beaver asked Paul the Group Scout Leader, when he would see his big friend from the explorers again, everyone had a wonderful time.
Sunday all the young people were bussed to Walton Firs Scout Camp at Cobham to enjoy Archery, Skittles, The Crate Tower, Climbing Wall, Adventure Course, Maze and an Imitative Test, before returning to H.Q. for a camp closing ceremony.
The camp would not have been possible without the help of several groups in the local area, 1st.North Sutton “Tigris” service crew who set up a field kitchen and fed everyone, 2nd. Cuddington (Rowe) Scout Group for a coach and driver, support from several other groups, and all the unpaid leaders and helpers who give of their time throughout the year to run the Scout groups.
The group are planning the final part of their celebration this weekend (18th.Oct) when they are holding a 75th Anniversary Dinner Dance and Casino Night at their H.Q. with the guests of Honour Lord and Lady Baden-Powell. The catering for this occasion being supplied by David Tryrell Food and Hospitality. David being an ex-member of the group.
